Humanoid fighters are all well and good but for serious fans of fights to the death, dinosaurs were preferable. Those claws, those teeth, that ferocious attitude...Atari introduced Primal Rage in 1994 and really, the title said it all.

Seven prehistoric fighters went one on one with each other, battling for supremacy. There were good guys and bad guys, if you can consider a T. rex "good" since he would snack on you and your whole family if you happened to meet.

Not all of the fighters were saurian; Blizzard and Chaos were ape beasts, though on opposite sides of the good/evil fence. Sauron and Diablo were both T. rex types; Talon was a raptor; Armadon was a triceratops; and Vertigo was a snake-like dino who also happened to be the only girl.

All the beasts had a wide variety of moves in their arsenal, usually representative of their names. Blizzard was a master manipulator of ice, Diablo breathed fire, Talon was a good jumper and so on.

Primal Rage was not without a good dose of gallows humor. All the beasts were worshiped as gods by their human minions who could be seen in the background cheering on their favorites. As a reward for their adoration, the god beasts would occasionally chomp down on a few humans in order to restore their strength. It was worth more points to feast on your opponent's worshipers but your own peons would also do in a pinch.
