The first stage of the game had the player (as Princess Leia) ride a Speeder bike on the lush moon of Endor, where he had to avoid the Stormtroopers' Speeders and the myriad trees that popped up in the way. Reaching the Ewok village relatively unscathed netted you a whopping 10,000 point bonus.
The second stage revved up the action by putting you (as Lando Calrissian) in control of the Millenium Falcon (as if Han would let you in the driver's seat). You had to maneuver Captain Solo's pride and joy around obstacles and evade TIE Fighters to reach the Death Star's reactor and blow it up.
The second level was inter-cut with another stage of the game where the player stepped into Chewbacca's furry shoes to guide a commandeered AT-ST Walker around obstacles in the forest, all the while dodging fire from Imperial Walkers.
Another round and you were piloting the Falcon again, this time taking on the considerable bulk of a Star Destroyer. Skill and boldness were the only way to victory on that level.
Though the Return of the Jedi game arrived on the scene at the most inopportune time, i.e. right before the great video game crash, it still drew in the fans with its advanced graphics and sheer adrenalin rush of fighting the evil Empire.
