By the 1950s, pants had finally gained acceptance in the realm of female attire and when it came to casual wear, they looked to Italy for the latest styles. From the island of Capri came a slim, calf-length design that was both casual and sophisticated and managed to turn the heads of the opposite sex.

American women fell head over heels for Capri pants, which offered a welcome departure from the world of constricting dresses and their accompanying crinoline skirts. A longer version that came down to the ankles was also available and dubbed the Cigarette Pant, a term that go out of style as the dangers of smoking became more evident in society.

In the 90s, Capris followed the footsteps of many other retro-fashions of yesterday and made a huge comeback as new generations were introduced to the stylish pants of the 50s. This time around, they were adorned with everything from jewels and embroidery to side bows that added a modern twist to an old classic, and one that still had the ability to turn a head or two.
