MEMORIES:

I really wanted one,but once again,no.  More »
When you wore your own ID bracelet, it just signified your name. But when boys gave their ID bracelets to their girlfriend, it said" we’re going steady. You’ve got my name on you now, baby." And the gesture was even more romantic if the bracelet also included the girl's name, or even a little message of love engraved on it.

Dating in the 50s meant finding someone to go steady with. And going steady required some kind of symbol to represent your undying love. You could wear you boyfriends pin or his letter jacket if you were in high school, but for younger kids, the ID bracelet said it all.

After the 50s the bracelet disappeared, but when boomers' middle-schooler kids picked a girlfriend in the 80s, the ID bracelet came back in style.
