Inspired by the fashion-forward look of Madonna, rubber bracelets were a quick and inexpensive way to be stylish for both boys and girls.

Boys usually opted for plain black rubber, taking a cue from 80’s TV show Silver Spoons star Ricky Schroeder. Two bracelets could be intertwined forming a double half circle. It was a simple effect that didn’t took too much like jewelry. Girls could choose from a wide palate of colors, often in bright neon. They could wear one, a couple, or stack them up to the elbow for a bold, if a bit heavy, look.
