Mood rings

Though these were originally a 70s thing, they were rebirthed in the 90s retro boom. I just *had* to have one like the character Vada Sultenfuss in the 1991 Macaulay Culkin vehicle, My Girl.

It was an endless procession of heart and oval-shaped toy store mood rings from the time I was five up till about thirteen, without any hint of irony or nostalgia, and again since I hit twenty, since they're all over in thrift shops. I always lose mood rings after about a week and mine always seem to stay green.

"according to goethe in the theory of colours, green stands for heaven and hope. i always thought it to be symbolic of virtue and stability, though, green being the median in the color spectrum, the middle path. in a mood ring, specifically, i would think it to represent the virtue of temperance. what do you think?"

"I'm wearing one now...it's burned out, though."
