"Gimme a break - Break me off a piece of that Kit-Kat bar!"

If there are two things that kids are sure to enjoy, they are things made of chocolate and things that crunch. Figure out a way to put the two together and you are assured their loyalty. Such is the case with loveable Kit Kat candy bar, four fingers of crunchy wafer goodness that have been dipped in milk chocolate. What’s not to love about that? They were easily shareable with your cohorts as well. You could break them in half or in quarters and easily placate the pouting friend who hadn’t the wherewithal to stock up on their own supply of sugary snacks.

And to demonstrate the power of advertising, you probably have the aforementioned jingle playing in your head at this very moment. Of course, elsewhere in the world, you wouldn't have heard that specific advertisement, being that “Gimme a break” is the Hershey slogan, and Kit Kat is distributed worldwide by their chocolaty archrival Nestlé.

A favorite find in trick-or-treat baskets around the country, Kit Kat bars were introduced in the UK under the Rowntree brand around 1936 as the “Kit Kat Chocolate Krisp” and quickly gained popularity. The name was eventually shortened to the version we are familiar with. While it would take three and a half decades for it to finally be distributed in the United States, the brand won the hearts of kids everywhere with its sweet and crispy possibilities. In recent years, a number of variations on this classic have been introduced, from versions coated in white or dark chocolate to those flavored with orange or coffee.

For most, however, it is the regular old Kit Kat that pulls at those nostalgic heartstrings. And today, there are a number of sizes to choose from as well. There are single-finger bars, perfect for that Halloween goody bag, and even double-sized bricks, ensuring that you can break off a piece of that Kit Kat bar for everyone in your entourage. Start breaking off those fingers and handing them out to your friends and you are guaranteed to be a big hit with the gang. Or, you could just hoard them all to yourself. You wouldn’t be the first.
