Fruity Pebbles

Barney, my Pebbles!

Whether we liked it fruity or chocolatey, Post Cereals had our number in 1971 with the crispy rice bits in Fruity and Cocoa Pebbles.  The ads and the boxes featured characters from animated powerhouse The Flintstones.  The classic TV commercials for the cereals often pitted Barney Rubble against Fred Flintstone.  Barney repeatedly tricked the cereal right out of Fred's hands-- and sometimes just stole it outright.  Barney was often in disguise for his attempts, sometimes enlisting the help of Fred’s pet dinosaur, Dino.  Once the ruse was discovered, Fred would shout, "Barney, my Pebbles!" and the chase would begin.

While Cocoa Pebbles has remained relatively the same over the years, Fruity Pebbles have undergone some flavor changes.  Originally Fruity Pebbles had three flavors: orange, cherry and lemon.  New flavors have been added over time, like grape and lime, Berry Blue and Incrediberry Purple.  Very recently, they added Bedrock Berry Pink to the line up, for a total of eight flavors in a box.  The popular cereal remains a "yabba dabba delicious" part of many a child's "nutritious" breakfast.
