Named after the colorful character of the same name from the classic Robert Louis Stevenson book, Treasure Island, Long John Silver’s has been serving up a treasure chest of fish and chips, hushpuppies and other mouth-watering, seafarin’ grub for almost forty years.

Since its origin, just outside of the University of Kentucky (in Lexington, to be exact,) Long John Silver’s has grown to become one of the world’s most popular fast-food seafood chains, carrying such specialties as crab cakes, shrimp and other ocean treats. And for the American Midwest, where fresh seafood can be rarity, Long John Silvers has filled a void and found a loyal audience of fish-loving feasters.

The early days of Long John Silver’s included restaurants themed in a style reminiscent of Cape Cod fishing villages, and featuring artwork and decoration of a nautical nature.   Today, with over 1,200 restaurants, Long John Silver’s is now part of Yum! Brands (who own such fast-food icons as Taco Bell, Pizza Hut and Kentucky Fried Chicken.) As a result, it is common to see a Long John Silvers partnered up with one of these other fast food restaurants, meaning that you can order a hearty portion of fried cod or shrimp while your landlubber friend enjoys a finger-lickin’ three-piece chicken combo.

It be worth draggin’ yer peg leg into a Long John Silver’s and slapping a Doubloon down for a plate o’ grub fried golden brown. Eat smartly, me hearties!
