MEMORY:

In fourth grade, a girl I had a crush on gave me a paperback of the Lassie Come Home story. She promised me that if I read it, I would cry. Not a hard guess. I've been known to tear up during pet food commercials. but, she was right, I choked up on that story like crazy, thankfully in the privacy of my home, when no one else was around. I didn't admit this to her, of course.

A few years later, the old TV Lassie was showing up on cable, and I was struck by the melancholy nature of the whistling tune of the opening theme song. Heck, might as well grab the tissues before it even starts.
