The two genetically enhanced lab mice known as Pinky and the Brain got a new playmate in 1998 after starring in their own Emmy-winning show for a few years. Elmyra Duff was a young girl who loved animals with a burning passion that more often than not left the critters bruised and battered.

Pinky and the Brain had spun off from Steven Spielberg's Tiny Toons and featured the adventures of the two mice as they tried to take over the world. Brain was the super intelligent leader and schemer, plotting his way to world domination and dragging along dimwitted, happy-go-lucky Pinky.

Elmyra Duff (a play on Elmer Fudd's character) had a lot of love to give even though the animals she took in really didn't want it. You couldn't blame them, as Elmyra was a heavy-handed ditz with a gerbil skull adorning her hair bow. After a visit to the pet store where she bought a discount turtle, Elmyra discovered that Pinky and the Brain had stowed away in the turtle's shell and so the setting shifted to Elmyra's suburban home. The two mice continued their quest to take over the world but with the added obstacle of surviving Elmyra's tender mercies.

The show's creators were not happy with Elmyra's addition to the cast of Pinky and the Brain and their irritation with Warner Bros. interference is evident in the theme song line, "Now Pinky and the Brain, share a new domain, it's what the network wants, why bother to complain?" Fans sided with the writers and the show had an unsuccessful run of five episodes before it was canceled. Beware the fans, mighty networks. Beware the fans.
