Already a veteran of TV with a few animated series under his belt (he didn't wear a belt), Yogi Bear became the lead in a 90-minute cartoon block on Saturday mornings that featured many old and some new Hanna-Barbera characters.

Yogi's Space Race--complete with title cards inspired by the Star Wars font--was the first segment in the anthology and featured Yogi and his new sidekick, Scare Bear. Yogi's earlier domestic partner, Boo Boo, didn't appear in the series. The cartoon featured pairs of characters racing against each other in intergalactic competitions.

Yogi and Scare Bear piloted one vehicle and their opponents included Huckleberry Hound and Quack-up, a laid-back dog and clumsy duck team; Jabberjaw and Buford, a shark and a sleepy dog; Nugget Nose, Wendy and Rita, a ghost with a gold nose and his two friends; and the Phantom Phink and Sinister Sludge, a two-faced team that tricks others into thinking they're actually the good-guy duo, Captain Good and Clean Kat.

The second segment was Galaxy Goof-Ups featuring Yogi Bear, Scare Bear, Huckleberry Hound and Quack-Up as inept space patrolmen under the command of Captain Snerdley. The four goof-ups routinely neglected their duties to traipse around the galaxy and have fun.

The third segment was Buford and the Galloping Ghost, which was further divided into two parts: The Buford Files and The Galloping Ghost. Buford was a lazy bloodhound who solved mysteries in the South with two teenagers, Cindy Mae and Woody. The ghost was all about Nugget Nose, a deceased gold miner who haunted the Fuddy Dude Ranch and watched over two young ranch workers, Wendy and Rita.

After one year, the three segments spun off into their own individual time slots, which thrived for many more years. Space was never the same again.
