Release History:

A co-production between Jim Henson Productions and animation studio Nelvana, Dog City combined Muppets and cartoons to create a unique, film noir detective show.
Muppet dog cartoonist Eliot Shag creates his animated alter-ego, Ace Heart, in the pages of his comic strip. Ace is a smart private investigator, and Eliot’s life becomes fodder for Ace’s on-page adventures. Eliot’s girlfriend Colleen is inspiration for Ace’s police chief rival Rosie O’Gravy. Eliot’s friend, young Artie Springer, becomes Eddie, the sidekick newsboy. Bulldog repairmen Bruno and Bowser turn into gangsters Bugsy Vile and his dim-witted crony Bruiser on Eliot’s pages. Eliot and Ace would experience their adventures together, with Eliot often animating them as the story progressed. When Ace got in a jam, Eliot would be there with his handy pen and ink.
The film noir components included the tough guy voiceovers and the femme fatale characters, but Eliot took things one step further by introducing supernatural villains like MadDogzilla, crazy scientist Baron Von Rottweiler, and vampires.
The show was originally part of The Jim Henson Hour, and ran for two seasons on Fox’s brand new Saturday morning programming block.
