Do you consider cough drops candy or medication
Posted: Mon Nov 02, 2009 1:36 pm Central Time
I say, it depends
Ludens (I love the honey licorice ones. Taste like rootbeer), Ricolas, Smith Bros, F&Fs, Fruit Breezers and the chewy Pine Bros. ones, as well as the ones in Walgreens that taste like Dad's (a brand) Root Beer and orange Crush, could very easily fit into the candy department.
Hall's, Vicks, and Sucrets, on the other hand -- definitely medication
What do you think?

When I was a kid, the Luden's brand were like candy to me...I almost liked getting a cold so I could get some.
I loved the Wild Cherry and the Honey Lemon flavors! Yummy! |

To me, it's candy-flavoured medication. Going along with the "discontinued foods thread below", my favourite flavour was Black Currant Halls...and I haven't seen that flavour in years.
But, I do like the Lemon-Lime Halls with echinacea and vitamin C.
I know when I was in elementary school, kids would always sneak Halls in on fluoride rinse days to suck on, so that it would make the rinse more palatable. Hard to say whether it defeated the purpose of the rinse, but we kids would try ANYTHING. _________________ "Every heartbeat is a soundtrack to your life" ~ Kylie Minogue |

I remember when I was a kid, Dad would only give me Luden's Wild Cherry Cough Drops, only if I remembered the whole name. That was a challenge for a while, but eventually, I still remember that name. |

Ditto! Wild Cherry was my fave! I also liked Smith Bros. Vicks and Halls definitely medication. _________________ Growing old is inevitable, growing up is optional.

I loved the Pine Bros, my 7th grade teacher who was a bit of an alcholic knew I always had them and would ask for one after lunch almost daily, either that or gum. But I always had cough drops because I knew i would be able to have somethng to eat in class. _________________ Well behaved women rarely make history-Lauren Thatcher Ulrich

I always thought cherry Sucrets were candy-ish.
The most medicine-y are definitely Cepacol and Fisherman's Friend. Both are probably the most effective at soothing a sore throat, but I wouldn't recommend either if you're feeling nauseous (esp. not the Cepacol ones, the flavour is just stomach-turning!). |

Halls are the ones that make me nauseous! My poor little tummy just can't tolerate them! |

Halls are as sweet as pure sugar compared to Cepacol! |

I sometimes crave a discontinued brand of cough drop...
Still, I suspect their 'medicinal' properties are more along the lines of just giving you something to suck on to lubricate your throat than anything else. |
